My daughter, Alison, is a terrific writer. Her first novel, Worlds Collide, was a great read – and we’ll be announcing her new novel soon. In the meantime, she has a wonderfully entertaining blog at alisonstrobel.blogspot.com. (If you scroll down, you’ll get a sneak preview of her next book.)

James Patrick Holding of Tekton Apologetics Ministries hosts a feisty web site that researches objections to Christianity. Entertaining and informative! www.tektonics.org
Events
If you want to sharpen your leadership skills, there’s no better place than the Willow Creek Leadership Summit, which will be held in suburban Chicago and simulcast to 110 sites around the country on August 10-12. This year’s speakers include Andy Stanley, founder of North Point Ministries and one of my favorite pastors; Jim Collins, business expert and author of Built to Last and Good to Great; and James Meeks, civil rights leader, pastor, and a state senator representing five of Illinois’ poorest communities. Special guest: Willow Creek’s Bill Hybels interviews U-2’s Bono via video. www.willowcreek.com/events/leadership
Books
Okay, it’s not new, but it’s one of my most-used reference books: The Baker Encyclopedia of Christian Apologetics by Norman Geisler. Its 841 pages are packed with concise entries on everything from Absolute Truth to Zen Buddhism. A good first place to go for a quick overview of a topic.
Restaurants
Whenever we get to Chicago, Leslie and I make sure we eat at Bob Chinn’s seafood restaurant in suburban Wheeling. The blackened salmon is incredible – but so is everything else! They even post shipping invoices on their walls to prove that their seafood is flown in fresh daily. (Ironically, I live near the ocean now and can’t find any seafood as good as Chinn’s place in the Midwest.) www.bobchinns.com
