Fascinating Interview!

by Lee Strobel, 11.2.2006

It was the evidence from science and history that prompted me to abandon my atheism and become a Christian – and now biological discoveries have caused the world’s most famous philosophical atheist, Dr. Antony Flew, to declare his belief in a Creator. An account of my rare interview with Flew is below, and you can find free video clips at www.LeeStrobel.com. While you’re there, check out the hundreds of other clips of experts discussing what Christians really believe – and why. Oh, one more thing: please forward this e-newsletter to some friends!

Why Top Atheist Now Believes in a Creator

Some news items are so staggering that they demand personal investigation. That was the case with the stunning announcement in late 2004 that the world’s most famous philosophical atheist, Dr. Antony Flew, had abandoned his skepticism and now believes in a Creator.

Finally, I was able to sit down with the Oxford-educated author of three dozen books–including The Presumption of Atheism and Atheistic Humanism–and interview him about his new conclusions. The remarkable conversation was captured on video and is now available in free clips at www.LeeStrobel.com. Here are some highlights of my chat with the spry 83-year-old professor. [read more]

Case for a Creator Film Debuts

The integrated complexity of the biological world, which prompted world-famous atheist Antony Flew to believe in a Creator, is among the evidence explored in a new one-hour documentary based on my book The Case for a Creator. Using interviews with experts, footage from fossil fields in China, and stunning animation, the film makes a compelling case for an Intelligent Designer. Check out some clips at www.LeeStrobel.com. ASK LEE...About a Disputed Verse

Question:I saw your recent piece on the Trinity and I have a verse for you. I don’t know which translation of the Bible you use, but this is the reason I prefer the King James or New King James. Others don’t have this verse in them! Look for yourself: 1 John 5:7-8, "For there are three that bear record in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost; and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness in earth, the spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one."

Answer: Thanks for your note! I appreciate your concern for demonstrating that the Trinity is thoroughly biblical. However, there’s a reason why I don’t use that passage in making the case for the Trinity: the vast majority of scholars believe it’s inauthentic–that is, it wasn’t part of the original writings that were inspired and inerrant, but was added to the Bible centuries later.   ...About Not Needing God

Question: "I know several people who have never known or heard about God, let alone Jesus, for most of their lives, and they say that life’s been great without him. They don’t need him. What made you want to believe or to seek the truth? What made you humble yourself and say, ’I need and want to have a relationship with God?’"

Answer: When I was an atheist, I didn’t see any need for God either. I was a successful journalist at the Chicago Tribune, my first book had just been published, and I had no interest or desire to find out anything about Jesus. I was happy enough without faith. What changed? [read more]
